5 Pilates Moves for POTS and Hypermobility

Updated: Jan 16, 2020

I started taking private PT pilates a couple of months ago and it has really helped with strengthening my core, upper body and lower body in ways I had not done before. I had always been someone who liked more high impact exercise, but after my diagnosis I struggled with debilitating exercise intolerance. Right now my body is liking the slower more focused movements. Pilates has helped me be able to walk and stand a little bit better, which is really challenging for POTS patients. If you want to try some of these moves at home, I highly suggest the pilates bar, which is a good tool to work with for in-home training. It is really important to understand that not all pilates is the same.

Make sure that if you are going to explore Pilates as a PT option that it is with a certified instructor who is familiar with your condition and can help with different modifications along the way.

Finding something I actually enjoyed doing was also important for me even though I knew it was something I needed to do in order to help my daily life, but not all exercise is meant for everyone. Moving your body is so important, but you have to do what works best for you and your body.
